March 18, 2019 | Holmdel, NJ -- On Friday, April 5th, author, food historian and journalist Katie Parla will celebrate the release of her new cookbook, Food of the Italian South (Clarkson Potter, March 12, $30), at Corbo & Sons, the restaurant within Bell Market that brings Neapolitan and Roman inspired, wood-fired cooking to Central New Jersey. 

A New Jersey native, Katie is an acclaimed Rome-based culinary journalist, foremost authority on Italian cuisine, and co-author of the IACP award–winning cookbook Tasting Rome. Her new book, Food of the Italian South delves deeply into the culinary traditions of Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, and Puglia, regions best known for their rustic and romantic dishes.

Richard and Chantelle Corbo, Corbo & Sons Executive Chef and Sommelier, respectively, will host two unique experiences to celebrate the release of the book.  At an aperitivo hour followed by a seated dinner, guests will have the opportunity to meet Katie in person and enjoy recipes from the book.

Corbo & Sons will prepare cocktails and selection of dishes from Food of The Italian South in a taste-around, cocktail party format. Sommelier Chantelle Corbo will pair each recipe, served as individual tastes, with a hand chosen wine. Tickets include a signed cookbook, cocktails, and tasting-sized samples of recipes from the book paired with wine.

Seated Dinner with Wine Pairing

This marks the kickoff to Corbo & Sons Friday Night Dinner Series in the Green Room. Executive Chef Richard Corbo will prepare a three-course dinner, each dish inspired by The Food of the Italian South, with wine pairings by Chantelle Corbo. Tickets include a signed cookbook, a three-course seated dinner, and wine pairings.

$125 per ticket

Katie Parla, a New Jersey native, is a Rome-based food and beverage journalist, culinary guide, and educator. She is the author of the Saveur Award–winning food and travel site, the ebook Eating & Drinking in Rome, more than twenty travel guides, and the coauthor of the IACP award–winning cookbook Tasting Rome. Parla has appeared on and produced Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and F*ck, That’s Delicious with Action Bronson, and served as a culinary consultant on Season 2 of Netflix’s Master of None.
